Master Illusionist/Actor Roxanne Rhodes is a professional entrepreneur as founder of the highly sucsessful independant film/photography studio, "Slung Up! Studio's" which produces music video's, promotional media, short films, documentaries, 'How-To' media, ect., head of a mentorship program for those intrested in the arts of illusionary make up, stagecrafting & cinematography through a sister company to "Slung Up! Studio's" called "RoxiConcepts", which she also founded. All charties she sponsors are done through her 'The Rhodes Foundation for GLBT Issuse & Humanitarian Rights Campaign'. She is also a fashion design, a production and lighting effects designer & author. Her book "The RoxiNomIcon" is a 'hodge-podge' collection of life lessons learned living in the realm of the GLBT walk of life, make up speacial effects secrets, and almost anything you can think of dealing with the 'highs' & 'lows' of life as an eclectic artist and a member of the GLBT community. The book also focuses on the highly sensitive topic of GLBT spirituality which has prominant evangelicals in an uproar. She is also a musician and composer. She started playing the piano at age 4, started composing at age 10, and by age 12 had scored a 3 movement full orchestral composition. She is due to release her first musical compilation CD in the spring of 2008 with a full line-up of songs written between age 12 to the minute post-production of the CD is complete.
Roxanne Rhodes started performing as a female impersonator in the summer of 1993(c) and continued performing live until she started ailing from life altering health problems involving leg, knee, ankle & foot pain. Right before she had to retire from the live venues she was awarded the now 'de-funked' 1997 "Universal Mother" Crown. She was diagnosed with Rhuematiod Arthritis in her knee's ankles, and feet. Osteoperosis, Osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, Spina Bifida, a hole in her heart along with Mitro-Valve Prolapse, other degenerative bone diseases that can on occasion cause her to wake paralyzed from the waist down, Prostatitus, deterioration of the retnia in both eyes, deafness in the right ear, Post Tramatic Stress Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, a disassociative disorder called 'Split Personality Disorder', Severe Depression, social phobia's, Anxiety Attacks, Agoraphobia, and suffers from a life long history of night terrors (nightmares that don't end upon waking by means of subconcious self-hypnosis). By law of the United States of America, she is 100% physically disabled and 100% mentally disabled. She found herself crushed at the thought of never being able to perform live again due to her ailments until the day it dawned on her that she could perform by means of music video, the special effects it would provide to make her seemingly 'okay', and in the warmer months and after her annual spinal epidurals when her bone diseases are easier to deal with, present them live at nightclubs as her form of entertainment. An innovative form of entertainment totally foreign and new to her hometown of Birmingham Alabama.
Roxanne Rhodes last music video/short Documentry DVD sold 70,000+ copies nationally in the United States, recieved critical acclaim from the (GLBT) Associated Press, and lead her to recieveing the honor of European Union for Humanitarian & Charities Award for 2007, not just through her DVD, but also by the ammount of money given to charities and the 124+ hours of time spent at her state capitol pressing GLBT issuses with State Representatives, dispite her own ailments. "The award means alot to me. When I was notified I was in total shock. This wasn't even something I applied for and knew nothing of. I was LITERALLY ignorant of it. I learned that since the European Union is relatively a new collaboration of European countries, the award is fairly new. I was not at all disappointed when I discovered that all the award was, was a grant fund of 2.7 million dollars (that I had no personal access to) that I got to decide what charities and humanitarian efforts the funds went too (out of a list they had comprised). It was thrilling also to know that only one person on this planet gets the award/grant each year, and that 2007 was appearantly my year. I don't need a crown, plaque or anything else. This letter and this beautiful pendant as a reminder, and to know people worse off than I have been helped, that I was not only chosen by the E.U. but also (with permission) in conjuction with the U.S. State Department, and I had a hand in it is what is important to me. (At first it took awhile to prove I was who I am due to having a stage name and a given name, which provided painfully frustrating to straighten out all the "red tape")"-Roxanne Rhodes
Roxanne has a new DVD in post-production entitled "END DREAMS" that also includes a second disk of 'behind the scene's' and another separate DIY work: "How To Be 'Slung Up!" due out in late spring 2008 that will be available for sale not only through her website, but on eBay. She is also specifically targeting Alabama audiences, her home state (where the least of the sales were on her last DVD release) by selling it at local GLBT venue's via profit sharing with venue owners.
Roxanne Rhodes also has an artbook coming out spring 2008 (along with the 2 CD compilations, one Gospel & one medern classical, and the new DVD release, along with some other live productions TBA) that she assures will "turn heads & raise a few questions, some that I believe need addressing as to the state of our nation and the so-called religeous right.".
During "Slung Up Studio's" fiscal year end inventory, ect. in October 2006, she turned over the company CEO position to long-time business partner, personal manager, and long-time best friend, inventor Kman Wydmyn. During his short time in the CEO chair, he has landed licenses to use DreamWorks Studio editing software, PIXAR Studio's software, & LINUX.
