Talk:Row and column spaces

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In regards to the following line: "The column spaces of a matrix Z...", should the matrix variable used be A, as opposed to Z to fit with convention and also with the use of the lower-case a used to refer to the column and row vectors?

I don't find min(m,n) very clear can someone define this. Is it simply lesser of the two parameters? In any case it would be good to define this someplace.

m is the number of rows, n is the number of columns in the matrix. Since the matrix can't have more pivot positions than rows or columns, its rank can't be greater than any of these numbers either.

[edit] Split suggestion

I suggest splitting this article into Row space and Column space. I have already posted rough drafts of the two articles, and if no one objects I will change this article to a disambiguation page in a few days. Jim 21:15, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
