Route 155 (Prince Edward Island)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Thompson Road, sometimes Palmer Road South, labeled Route 155, is a 2-lane collector highway in western Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Canada. It is between the larger communities of Tignish and Miminegash. Its maximum speed limit is 80 km/h. The road is considered part of the Miminegash–St. Louis region.
The highway runs from Route 152 (Union Road) in St. Louis, to the North Cape Coastal Drive (Route 14) in Pleasant View, passing through the communities of St. Louis, Palmer Road, and Pleasant View.
[edit] History
Route 155 (Thompson Road) has been historically referred to as "Palmer Road", as synonymous with Route 156 (Palmer Road). Since the 1999 reform of civic addresses in PEI, Route 156 was given the name "Palmer Road", while Route 155 was offered another name, Thompson Road. The road is still, however, located in the "Palmer Road" community. Some locals disputed this alteration, and still call the road by "Palmer Road". The entirety of the road was paved in 1980, and Route 155 is home to the Palmer Road Community Center and the Immaculate Conception Church. The entire Route 156 is considered part of the Miminegash or St. Louis area, although Tignish is also a nearby outlet, being approximately 6 or 7 miles NW of the route.
[edit] Other information
All addresses on Route 155 receive electrical power from the St. Louis/Bloomfield power substation. Basic cable service from Eastlink nor High speed internet from Aliant Telecom have ever been available in Route 156, however "Route 2 Internet" wireless services have implanted a "service tower" on Church View Road, which is a small road merging off Route 155.
