The roughback sea catfish, scientifically named as Plicofollis tonggol is a species of sea catfish.[1] This is known as arahan in the Philippines,[2][3] where it is regarded important in the fishing industry. As food, roughback sea catfish are sundried and salted before actual trade and consumption.

Plicofollis tonggol (Bleeker, 1846) belongs to the family Ariidae, the order of Siluriformes, and the class of Actinopterygii.[3]

The roughback sea catfish grow up to 40 centimeters. They live in the salty waters of tropical regions of the world. They feed on invertebrates. They have pointed dorsal fins, which can cause injury if held by unprotected human hands.[3]

They are found at the coastal waters of Pakistan, Malaysia, Philippines and Indonesia.[3]
