[edit] Summary
Description:
Schematic representation of a rotating disk from which a small "fountain" ejects squirts of water. The drops of water are in inertial motion. No force is acting on the drops of water, so they move in a straight line.
This animation is designed to be used together with Image:Rotating_fountain_coriolis_effect02.gif and Image:Rotating_fountain_coriolis_effect03.gif
Animation 02 shows the same disk and fountain, as seen from a co-rotating point of view. Animation 03 is a sequence of 6 images, each depicting the centrifugal term and the coriolis term of the equation of motion for motion with respect to a rotating coordinate system.
