The Grey School of Wizardry is a school specializing in occult magic, operating primarily on-line and as a non-profit educational institution in the State of California. Founded in August of 2004, and created for students of all ages over 11, the Grey School provides an extensive seven year level program of studies, at an Apprenticeship level. Over 200 classes are offered, in 16 magickal Departments. Graduates are certified as “Journeyman Wizards.”
The founder and Headmaster of the school is Oberon Zell-Ravenheart, a founder of the Church of All Worlds, and an author of several books on magical subjects, including some of those used as textbooks in the Grey School of Wizardry. Courses offered at the Grey School provide basic, classical education in history, mythology, geography, mathematics, literature, natural history, astronomy, chemistry, physics, zoology, botany, and Latin. The performing arts are included as well, with classes in poetry, music, theater, and illusion.
Taking the Grimoire for the Apprentice Wizard by Oberon Zell-Ravenheart as a starting point for the basic curriculum, the Grey School of Wizardry offers additional classes, lessons and practical exercises, links to websites with specialized materials, etc., and many color graphics and images which could not be reproduced in the printed book. Class materials and lessons are provided and taught by a highly-qualified Faculty and guest lecturers. New classes are to be added continually. Music, chants and songs will also be included, drawing upon the rich store of materials available in the magickal community. Both the Grimoire and the School focus on magic rather than spirituality, although a few Classes cover mythology and comparative religions.
The Grey School is highly interactive, and includes not just study materials, but four Elemental “Houses” (Sylphs, Salamanders, Undines, and Gnomes) in which students are able to communicate directly with each other. Each House has a Faculty Head to moderate the chatrooms, etc. As suitable candidates emerge, each House will also add a Student Head.
The Grey School Library includes not only a bibliography, but also links to on-line articles and encyclopedias. Other links allow students to do independent research with various available training programs, directories, events, and stores for magickal supplies. Also, there is an interactive FAQ page where students can post questions.
