Although there is a mixture of zones, the suburb is predominantly residential and at the 2006 (provisional) Census of Population and Dwellings, Roslyn had a population of 5,440. [1] Roslyn has the largest population of any area unit in Palmerston North.

The main shopping areas of Roslyn are located at the Rossmont Shopping Centre (also known as Vogel Street Village), which is located on Vogel Street, between Kipling and Milton Streets. Rossmont is also the location of the Community Policing Centre. Also located in Roslyn is Bunnings Warehouse, which attracts many customers to the area. In the SW, across the road from the Terrace End Shopping Centre are shops. The area is generally not considered a part of Roslyn, yet it technically is.
The Freyberg Community Pool is open to the public for leisure.
The local pub is the Willowpark Tavern, which has been the venue of many past international and domestic music tour concerts. There is also the Birdcage located on the corner of Vogel and Milton Streets.
[edit] Industrial
Quality Bakers is located in Roslyn also, as is Hynds Pipelines. There is a refuse transfer station on Malden Street.
There is also Terrace End Cemetery, which is in the SE corner, below the point known as Terrace End (which is at the bend of Vogel and Upper Main Street)

[edit] History
Roslyn was named in 1918 after Charles Mackintosh Ross, who was the local draper. Unfortunately, when the Post Office was established here, there was already a Roslyn in Dunedin. Therefore the Terrace End-Roslyn Progressive Association had to find another name for the area.
Rossmont was chosen because of the location; the fact the area is higher up from the rest of Palmerston North. Recently, perhaps because of the local primary school, the name Roslyn has resurfaced.
The Hoffman Brick Kiln works created the areas now known as The Pit, Vautier Park and the "Freyberg Pit" and their building is still located on Featherston Street. (Historic)
Roslyn has been known under many names including Ross, Rossmont and Terrace End. Until recently Statistics New Zealand identified those who live in Roslyn as it is now, lived in Terrace End. Terrace End as it is now, was known as Brightwater.
[edit] Main Streets
- Vogel Street: This street dissects the suburb from north-north-west to south-south east. The street is named for the former Premier of New Zealand, Sir Julius Vogel. Vogel Street begins from Tremaine Avenue and ends at Terrace End at Upper Main Street.
- Railway Road: The alternative route from Palmerston North to Feilding (via Bunnythorpe).
- Milson Line forms a boundary between Roslyn and Milson. This is also another alternate route to Feilding (via Cameron Line and Aorangi).
- Tremaine Avenue passes through the north of the suburb.
- Featherston Street ends in Roslyn (at Vogel Street)
- Rangiora Avenue whilst not a main street, it does lend its name to the local bus route

However, due to the reformation of the electoral system from FPP to MMP, the electorate of Palmerston North had its boundaries redrawn to include Roslyn.
