Roseophilin is an antibiotic isolated from Streptomyces griscovirides. The chemical structure can be considered in terms of two components, a macrotricyclic segment and a heterocyclic side-chain. Several syntheses of roseophilin (e.g., those of Trost, Furstner, Salamone) use modified Paal-Knorr conditions.
