[edit] Wind energy
Roscoe has become a pioneer in wind energy as it begins construction of the largest wind farm in the United States, and one of the largest in the world. Airtricity is spending more than $1 billion to install 640 windmills around Roscoe that will generate 800 megawatts, enough to power 265,000 homes. A landowner can earn between $5,000 and $15,000 per windmill per year.[4] The electricity generated is essentially pollution-free. A coal-fired plant producing the same power would annually create 2 million tons of carbon dioxide, the primary greenhouse gas, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
