Rosalie Kunoth-Monks

Ngarla Kunoth, or Rosalie Kunoth-Monks was born in 1937 at Utopia Cattle Station (Arapunya) in the Northern Territory of Australia. Her tribe is the Amatjere people.
She played the title role in Charles Chauvel's 1955 film, Jedda. She spent about ten years in a convent as a nun, then left it again. She is involved in several indigenous projects to improve education, health and housing of her people within the Northern Territory. Presently she is Chancellor of the Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education.
On March 8th 2007 (International Women's Day) she was presented with a Northern Territory Tribute to Women Award at the opening of the National Pioneer Women's Hall of Fame in Alice Springs.
