How is this a hate crime against LGBTs? The kid was 3-years-old. Are 3-year-olds now considered LGBTs? 67.135.49.29 06:03, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Real or Perceived

A hate crime can be based on the victim's real or perceived sexual orientation. A three-year-old doesn't have a sexual orientation and isn't sexual, but in this case the father perceived his son as being gay or having gay tendencies which he wanted discourage, and he chose violence as his method.
