[edit] To OneEuropeanHeart
I challenge you, OneEuropeanHeart, to prove rigth now (cite the sorce) the statement "Richter announced that it would deliver cheap energy in containers of two sizes: half liter and one liter, not unlike the milk containers of the time." 200.45.6.126 14:02, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
- This statement has now been sourced. --Malthusian (talk) 00:51, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
- Malthusian, thanks for your help! --OneEuropeanHeart 01:10, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks, although I didn't come up with the source, someone else sent me the reference via email. --Malthusian (21!) (talk) 20:00, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

Then: "While in a state of delirious enthusiasm [Perón] said [just] anything --recalled Richter-- and ventured to prognosticate that I would obtain for him bottled electric energy. As a consequence of those exaggerations the plan to expand the CADE [main source of electric power for the greater Buenos Aires] was dropped, giving rise to an energy setback." and "[From t]he writer Tomás Eloy Martínez (1996): ...Perón] was clumsy in announcing the false finding in a resounding matter, assuring that from that moment Argentina would sell nuclear energy for domestic use in bottles of one [liter] and half a [liter]. Naturally, this caused what in Argentina has been known [since then as] a historical embarrassment." is equivalent to "Richter announced that the project would deliver cheap energy in containers of two sizes: half liter and one liter, not unlike the milk containers of the time.", isn't it? 200.45.150.180 14:54, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
- It does seem from the quotes that the milk container thing should be laid at Peron's feet, not Richter's. · rodii · 17:32, 7 March 2006 (UTC)

- To rodii,

- The full chain of custody of the records, i.e., who said what to whom and who told what to the press is here [1] This version has been further modified hindering work in progress to address your other editorial concerns. Also notice that the recorded utterances are dated after the regime fell and people felt free to talk about facts from the previous years. Notice that now that the container issue has been as extensively sourced as feasible, it has been deleted from the article's versions following the one linked above. As you can ascertain, the deletion has not been justified nor explained on this page. Jclerman 16:28, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
Most of those scientists who try to belittle Richter's work have never done anything of importance by themselves. Nobody in Argentina, specially those engaged with Balseiro's academic heritage, understood and could appreciate Richter's research.--200.43.201.109 17:36, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Poor sourcing/cleanup
I'm putting a cleanup template on this article, and I wanted to explain why here. This article is really vague about sourcing. I can help with the writing, but the sourcing not so much. Example:
He attended the German University of Prague until 1935 when, according to one source, he was awarded a doctorate in natural sciences. Other source claims that he was not awarded a doctoral degree because he had misinterpreted his research results. He had concluded that he had discovered delta rays being emmited by the earth, but in fact he had been detecting X-rays scattered by the ground. According to Santos Mayo's recollections, he had personally heard Richard Gans say that
Richter proposed a thesis, at the German University of Prague, to detect "delta rays" emitted from Earth. Professor Heinrich Rausch von Traubenberg did not agree with the project. The "young genius" went to work somewhere else and graduated in a different field.
Kurt Sitte's recollections of Richter's research under Prof. Furth differed.
- "according to one source"--which one?
- "[An]other source"--which?
- "Kurt Sitte's recollections... differed"--how?
This whole article is like this, very vague, and the sources that are cited are in a very uninformative format. · rodii · 02:48, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

- Rereading this comment, I realized it comes across as much harsher than I intended--I apologize for my wording. This is a difficult article to get right, and I didn't mean to sound critical of anyone's efforts. · rodii · 03:26, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
- OK, I missed the "in construction" in a comment the first time round. Sorry about that. I'm still going to put in some citation needed templates, but it looks like this is being actively worked on, so delete as you go. · rodii · 03:00, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Translated excerpts
- From Gambini (1999, Vol.1, p.398):
"While in a state of delirious enthusiasm [Perón] said [just] anything --recalled Richter-- and ventured to prognosticate that I would obtain for him bottled electric energy. As a consequence of those exaggerations the plan to expand the CADE [main source of electric power for the greater Buenos Aires] was dropped, giving rise to an energy setback."
- From Gambini (1999, Vol.1, p.401):
"[From t]he writer Tomás Eloy Martínez (1996, p.182): ...Perón] was clumsy in announcing the false finding in a resounding manner, assuring that from that moment Argentina would sell nuclear energy for domestic use in bottles of one litre and half a litre. Naturally, this caused what in Argentina has been known [since then as] a 'historical embarrassment.'" NOTE: Eloy Martinez cites the origin of his quotation to be Confalonieri (1956, p.214) who took it from its original source: the newspaper Clarin, Buenos Aires, issue of October 7, 1955.

[edit] Biography intended
- This article, being currently drafted and edited, is intended to be the biography of Ronald Richter. For details about his ideas and his work related to nuclear fusion see the article Huemul Project. For the prehistory and genesis of the Argentine CNEA, see the article Comisión Nacional de Energía Atómica. Jclerman 18:27, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
- Some sections are currently being expanded and sourced. Jclerman 00:39, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

- That appears to have little to do with the article Ronald Richter. Please try to confine your posts on talk pages to discussion of improving the main article. --Sam Blanning (formerly Malthusian) (talk) 23:00, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Edit war
The IP 200.82.18.5 (talk • contribs • page moves • block user • block log) has been blocked for 12 hours for violating the three-revert rule. However, this block is not an endorsement of any version of the content of Ronald Richter. All parties should continue to work to reach a consensus through negotiation and other acceptable methods of dispute resolution. Continuation of the edit war will be unproductive, and is not encouraged. —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 01:58, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
- Unlikely to happen. 200 refuses to register an account (I can't provide a diff because I can't possibly remember which IP he was using when he said it - he comes back with a different one each time) and doesn't show any interest in formal dispute resolution. His edits that remove sourced information without justification do not respect consensus and will continue to be reverted. --Sam Blanning (formerly Malthusian) (talk) 11:03, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Richter's claims
"In October 1950, on Huemul Island, for the first time I was successful in producing an inertia-controlled, strongly non-Maxwellian, proton-hydrogen, high-pressure plasma. When injecting lithium hydride, gamma-counter tubes were detecting some 17,6 MeV gamma quants. In other experiments, I was producing a deuterium plasma by gradually dissociating injected heavy water, until neutron emission was setting in. This was the first step of the research programme."
"On 15. December 1950 the shock-wave-generating process was running at full power input, the shock-waves emitting an almost unbearable amount of 'white' ultra-sound. X-ray counter tubes, connected to recording counting rate meters, were indicating a considerable background of soft X-rays (Bremsstrahlung). The detonating plasma system was almost invisible, i.e., the plasma zone was characterised by an enormous discrepancy: a high-intensity emission of ultraviolet radiation, and a very-low-intensity emission of red emission - with nothing in between. To the best of my knowledge, no other laboratory in the world has ever achieved such rather strange plasma conditions."
"The second step was intending to couple the neutrons and tritium nuclei, produced by shock-induced deuterium-deuterium reactions with highly reactant atomic nuclei of lithium-6 and lithium-7, thus setting off a sequence of reactions which, when reaching criticality, were expected to produce a neutron-reproducing and tritium-multiplying chain reaction in lithium-6-enriched lithium. The first successful exponential experiment of this kind was taking place on 16 February, 1951. In June 1952, a different sequence of reactions was being tested in another successful experiment, in which the tritium nuclei produced by neutron capture in lithium-6 were reacting with protons, and by doing so were emitting 20 MeV gamma photons. In other words, in the first kind of exponential experiment I was testing the basic reaction scheme of a most effective hydrogen bomb and neutron bomb, while in the second kind of exponential experiments, I was testing what amounts to a tactical battle-field bomb, a gamma-flash bomb"
"In the course of these experiments, I was also discovering that the inertia-controlled confinement phase of plasma shock-waves, detonating inside a given magnetic field, are generating very short-lived, but highly-compressed magnetic fields in the megagauss range. These highly-compressed magnetic fields may now become an entirely new tool for attacking the internal energetic structure of the proton and, eventually, enforce its breakdown."
