Ronaldo de Souza is a Brazilian mixed martial artist. His nickname Jacaré came from Portuguese language for the species of crocodilians and form the family alligatoridae living in his town of birth. Souza is one of the top submission grapplers in the world. He placed second in the absolute division of the 2005 ADCC world championships, losing to Roger Gracie by submission (rear naked choke).

[edit] Mixed martial arts career
Ronaldo made his MMA debut on September 9, 2003 loosing to Jorge Patino by KO at 3:13 into the first round. Ronaldo would then return to MMA eight months later at the Jungle Fight 2 event in Brazil, securing a Submission win in under a minute into the first round.
He returned to MMA action in April of 2006 with an Arm Triangle Choke submission victory over Alexander Shlemenko at the Jungle Fight 6 event and went on to fight two more times in 2006, both submission wins within the first round.
At the end of 2006, Jacare drew with UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture in a grappling contest. After the match he was invited by Couture to train at his gym.[citation needed] Jacare accepted and now trains at Xtreme Couture with the likes of Forrest Griffin, Tyson Griffin, Phil Baroni, Wanderlei Silva, Randy Couture and more.
Ronaldo's first fight of 2007 came on 19 May, with him scoring yet another impressive submission win (due to strikes) in the first round over Bill Vicick at the Gracie Fighting Championships: Evolution event. He would then fight two times in two consecutive weeks on September 29 and October 13 of 2007, scoring yet another two submission wins both within the first round.
Jacare is currently competing in DREAM's Middleweight Grand Prix. In the first round of the tournament at DREAM.2, he defeated Ian Murphy via Rear Naked Choke. His next fight will be against Kazushi Sakuraba at DREAM.4. The winner of this tournament will be crowned the first DREAM Middleweight Champion at DREAM.6.[1]
