Ron Slinker (died March 28, 2008) was an American professional wrestler and martial artist who has competed in North American independent promotions International World Class Championship Wrestling, Mid-South Wrestling (later Universal Wrestling Federation), Florida Championship Wrestling and the National Wrestling Alliance holding the NWA Southeastern Heavyweight Championship and the NWA Florida Tag Team Championship with Sgt. Rock during 1990[1]. He has also teamed with Kendall Windham, Edward Leslie and Ron Bass, who together faced André the Giant and Dusty Rhodes at the NWA Mid-South Superdome Extravaganza on December 25, 1978 during a tournament to fill the vacant NWA United States Tag Team titles[1].
Following his retirement during the early 1990s, Slinker would later manage Ron Bass and Robert Fuller before becoming a promoter in Florida. Meeting Rob Szatkowski while passing through Florida, Slinker suggested he change his ring name to Rob Van Dam (which he has used for his entire career since) and also introduced him to Japanese promoter Giant Baba.
Slinker died on March 28, 2008.[2]
