Ron Purcell

Dr. Ronald C. Purcell is an American guitarist, with degrees from the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music, California State University, Northridge, Lisboa Conservatorio de Musica, Lisbon and the Orfeo Catala Lleidata, Barcelona. He is presently Professor Emeritus of the Department of Music at Cal State, Northridge and Director of the International Guitar Research Archives.
Dr. Purcell began his career as a jazz guitarist but quickly became an important figure in the classical guitar world. He studied the guitar with Andres Segovia and studied the guitar and vihuela with Emilio Pujol. He also studied composition with Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, whose Hommage to Purcell is dedicated to him.
Dr. Purcell has been the editor of many volumes published by Chanterelle and Mel Bay including the complete works of Miguel Llobet and works by Laurindo Almeida.
