Ron Dupuis

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ron Dupuis is a Canadian politician, currently serving as a councillor and deputy mayor on Greater Sudbury City Council in Greater Sudbury, Ontario. Prior to the municipal amalgamation of 2000, he served on the town council of Rayside-Balfour.

Dupuis was also the Ontario Liberal Party candidate in the 1999 and 2007 provincial elections for the electoral district of Nickel Belt. His 2007 candidacy attracted some controversy, as he was nominated just weeks after resigning from the city council's planning committee for health reasons. [1] The campaign was also marked by conflicting claims about whether he had been officially endorsed by Greater Sudbury mayor John Rodriguez, after Rodriguez attended and spoke at the official opening of Dupuis' campaign office.

Dupuis also sits on several of the council's committees, including the police services board, the health unit board, the management board for the city-owned Pioneer Manor retirement home, the transit committee, the accessibility advisory panel, the arts and culture grant advisory panel, the recreational complex advisory panel, the bicycle advisory panel and the solid waste management advisory panel.

Prior to entering politics, Dupuis was a union representative for Inco's mining operations in the Sudbury area for more than 18 years. He participated in many successful contract talks and negotiations on behalf of his membership. In addition, Dupuis has been an entrepreneur for many years and held an ownership stake in the Sudbury Wolves and the Rayside-Balfour Sabrecats.
