Digital Gold Currencies (DGCs) are a form of electronic money denominated in gold weight. The typical unit of account for such currencies is the gold gram or the troy ounce, although other units such as the gold dinar are sometimes used.
While other forms of electronic money often exist in distributed forms, such as on smartcards, digital gold currencies typically exist in a centralized database, usually operated by the currency issuer.
