At least 3 people agreed with my latest change to the template. I think one should present the facts here and stop the edit war. Marc KJH (talk) 05:07, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Yet another Romanian-Moldovan tug-of-war
I must say, I am most impressed by the sheer silliness of revert-warring over a single word in a template. As an attempt to stop it let me point out the following: As stated in the article, a diaspora refers to any people or ethnic population forced or induced to leave their traditional homelands, the dispersal of such people, and the ensuing developments in their culture. Now, if we look at the titular nation of Moldova, we can see that they represent the indigenous population of their traditional homeland, and where they form a 75%+ majority. While it can be argued that they probably have migrated from the west at some early time, such colonizing migrations cannot be considered as diasporas indefinitely; over very long periods, eventually the migrants assimilate into the settled area so completely that it becomes their new homeland. Thus the modern population of Germany do not feel that they belong in the Siberian steppes that the Alemanni left 16 centuries ago; the Hungarian Magyars are not drawn back to the Altai; and the English descendants of the Angles, Saxons and Jutes do not yearn to reoccupy the plains of northwest Germany, to quote the diaspora article again. I'm sure those 2.2% Moldovan citizens consider Moldova their homeland as well, since nobody is holding them by force and they are free to move to Romania (the EU-member right nearby) if they feel otherwise. Therefore, may I suggest to cut this little Gordian knot and eliminate the crux of the problem from the template altogether? I'm sure there's a ton of related articles to revert-war over, productively edit out there. --Illythr (talk) 01:28, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
