The Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix was established by Pope Paul VI on December 2, 1969 . The Diocese, comprises of 43,967 square miles. Its ecclesiastic territory includes Maricopa, Mohave, Yavapai, and Coconino (excluding the territorial boundaries of the Navajo Indian Reservation), and also includes the Gila River Indian Reservation in Pinal County. [1]
The first church built after the esatblishment of the Diocese was the Church of the Resurrection in Tempe, AZ in 1970.

The diocese uses several types of media to fulfill its evangelization efforts:
[edit] Radio ministry
Radio Family Rosary is a radio ministry of the Diocese of Phoenix founded in 1983 .The station begins with a recitation of the rosary every day [2] .After the rosary the station focus on a particular saint or a point of catechism is hold. The station were founded by Dorothy Westfall, after a suggestion from a Pheonix parisher suffering from arthritis. [3]

The Catholic Sun is the official newspaper of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix.[4] The paper is published two times a month and is sent to more than 115,000 homes in the counties of Coconino, Maricopa,Mohave, and Yavapai.[5]

Mass is broadcast live from Cathedral of Saints Simon and Jude each Sunday morning by KUTP.[6]
