Roman Catholic Diocese of Baker

The Diocese of Baker (Latin: Dioecesis Bakeriensis) is a territorial division, or diocese, of the Roman Catholic Church in Eastern Oregon, United States. The diocese consists of the counties of Baker, Crook, Deschutes, Gilliam, Grant, Harney, Hood River, Jefferson, Klamath, Lake, Malheur, Morrow, Sherman, Umatilla, Union, Wallowa, Wasco and Wheeler in Eastern Oregon. It is a suffragan see of the Archdiocese of Portland.

The "Diocese of Baker City" was established on June 19, 1903, and renamed "Diocese of Baker" on February 16, 1952.

The current Bishop of the Diocese of Baker is the Most Reverend Robert F. Vasa. Past bishops are:

  • Charles Joseph O'Reilly - (1903-18)
  • Joseph Francis McGrath - (1918-50)
  • Francis Peter Leipzig - (1950-71)
  • Thomas Joseph Connolly - (1971-99)
  • Robert Francis Vasa - (1999-present)
