Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Palermo

The Roman Catholic Metropolitan Archdiocese of Palermo was originally founded as the Diocese of Palermo in the 1st Century but was raised to the level of an archdiocese in the 11th Century. The current Archbishop of Palermo is Paolo Romeo. The Archbishop Emeritus is His Eminence Salvatore Cardinal De Giorgi. Cardinal Pappalardo died on Sunday, December 10, 2006.
