Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Caracas

The Roman Catholic Metropolitan Archdiocese of Caracas is an ecclesiastical territory or diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Venezuela. It was founded as the Diocese of Caracas on June 20, 1637, and was later elevated to the rank of a metropolitan see on November 27, 1803, with the suffragan sees of Guarenas, La Guaira, and Los Teques. The current Archbishop is His Eminence Jorge Cardinal Urosa Savino, since his appointment by Pope Benedict XVI on September 19, 2005. The Archbishop of Caracas is also the Primate of the Church in Venezuela.
