Rolly (Sony)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

On August 20, 2007, Sony launched an initial teaser advertising campaign for a new product called Rolly [1]. On September 2 the advertisement for the Rolly was the 3rd most popular video on YouTube with 123,000,000 views.

By early impressions it appears to be a personal electronics device combining music functions with robotic dancing. A commercial featuring a man dancing with the Rolly device is also available for viewing on Sony's teaser website. [2] On September 10, 2007 Sony unveiled “Rolly”, an egg-shaped digital robotic music player which has colour lights that flash as it “dances” and has flapping wings that can twist to its tunes. Movements along with the music downloaded from personal computers and Bluetooth can be set. Rolly, which has gone on sale in Japan on September 29, 2007, has two gigabytes of flash memory to store tunes. [1] it uses gyros and sound-sensitivity components to detect beat, rhythm, voice and pitch thus moving to the music. It also has the G-sensor ( acclerometer) which detects if the player is up or down.
