Rolandas Pavilionis

Rolandas Pavilionis (July 3, 1944 - May 10, 2006) was a Lithuanian philosopher, logician, public figure, politician and Member of the European Parliament for the Liberal Democratic Party; part of the Union for a Europe of Nations.

In 1962 graduated Šiauliai night-school for workers, paralelly worked in Šiauliai factory of bicycles.

At the same year entered Vilnius University to study foreign languages. 1968 m. graduated Vilnius university diploma in philology.

1968 - 1971 was studying in aspiranture in Science akademy of Ukraine and took doctor degree in logics.

1971 - 1977 was docent in Vilnius university, 1982 - 1990 prophesor, for some time leaded departament of History of philosophy and logics of Vilnius university.

Improved in Sorbonne University of Paris at prof. Algirdas Julius Greimas. 1981 maintained thesis in field of language logics and philosopghy of logics for degree of Habilitated Doctor of logics.

In 1990 Rolandas Pavilionis was elected rector of Vilnius university, and exercised those functions until 2000, when was elected Parliament of Lithuanin Republic.

In 2004 was elected to European Parliament and was vice-Sąjungos už Tautų Europą frakcijos vicepirmininku, dirbo Kultūros ir švietimo komiteto nariu, Piliečių laisvių, teisingumo ir vidaus reikalų komiteto nariu - pavaduotoju.

In 2006 died in Vilnius Santariškės hospital.
