Talk:Roger Daltrey
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] Son
If poop ate you is a 'legendary' photographer, why does he not have his own Wikipedia entry, or any other significant internet presence? Perhaps a better word could be found?
- Or perhaps we should use citeable material instead of deciding for ourselves who is legendary. CynicofWiki 18:41, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] CSI Appearance
I read on MTV.com somewhere that Roger will appear in an upcoming CSI episode. No word yet on his role.
[edit] McVicar Dates
I have been trying to establish a date for the soundtrack album, McVicar, and I am a bit confused. The movie appeared in 1980, but the only date I've found for the album is 1996. I have assumed this is the date for the CD, but I have just purchased the CD and the PolyGram date on it is 1973!
Can anyone offer any insight?
Rdikeman 13:21, Nov 3, 2004 (UTC)
- I found a source that gives 1980 as the album release date, and a mid-90s date for the CD.

1980 is correct. For more information on Daltrey's albums, see reference at http://www.wdkeller.com/index7.htm/ Pkeets 05:13, 9 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Removed link
I removed this link to The Who Locations guide because it's all ready on the main The Who article and doesn't seem to be needed in this one. ~~Shiri — Talk~~ 02:00, May 7, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Roger's cross
I was curious about the cross that Roger is always pictured wearing in the 70's. Was he religious at all or was the cross just another bauble hung on all rock singers? I'm not quite sure... but I know he was always wearing it. -The Seeker
Ok, yeah I know the wording was kinda lame, but I couldn't think of what to say. Could someone answer it anyway??? -The Seeker
This is completely hearsay, but I've heard that it has to do with the TOMMY role, where Tommy was accepted as a messiah by his fans. Daltrey seems to have left this behind in recent years, and wears other pendants instead. The most recent one appears to be a guitar. Pkeets 05:13, 9 April 2006 (UTC)
In fact, it is a so-called Sarcelly cross. The Tommy crucifix looked more like a silver (pinball) ball superimposed on a Tau (or St Anthony's) cross for Tommy's initial. I have it on good authority (friends of Pete Townshend's)that despite all the wild rock 'n' roll parties, Daltrey loves Jesus and collects Christian art. In the streets of New York, people often called out: Heeeeeey! Tommy!!, whenever they bumped into him. The cover of his debut solo album was recycled as Sally Simpson's wallpaper, and also looks quite Messianic. I had a theory that he had copied the hairstyle from Pete's Indian guru Meher Baba, but the vitriolic lines in "Times Change" on Daltrey's "Rocks in the Head" solo album (1992)tell a different story: Better this (the hedonistic club scene) than some guru telling you how to live" ... Cheers, everybody Frank Landsman 07:46, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Sex God...?
This sounds really awkward, but Daltrey was considered a rock and roll "sex god", correct? Shouldn't that be mentioned in the article somehow? Irunwithscissors 19:46, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
Like you, I don't know if that's an appropriate way to phrase it ;), but yes, Daltrey does seem to have been the prototype for Cock Rock front men. Although his stage persona appears to be an expression of his personality, it was taken up by many other rock musicians as a formula for achieving a successful image. Daltrey has always been considered unusually attractive, and appeared to have some difficulties in preserving his privacy and coming to grips with the Groupie phenomenon. He also has more children than are mentioned in this article. Pkeets 05:28, 9 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] History Channel Show
Didn't he have a short-lived show on the History channel (sometime in 2003). I might be mixing him up with someone though. OsFan 16:58, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
Yes. For a reasonably complete list of films, check at the IMDB. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0002032/ Pkeets 17:23, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Charity Work
Roger Daltrey was awarded the C.B.E. for contributions to the UK music industry, but also for his enormous contributions to charity work. He organizes an annual round of concerts at the Royal Albert Hall for the Teen Cancer Trust and often performs charity work for other causes. He was featured as one of TIME MAGAAINE's Heroes in 2003. http://www.time.com/time/europe/hero/daltrey.html/ This should appear in the article.Pkeets 17:25, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Er, am I so old?
Why is there nothing about Woodstock here. Those of us who are old enough will never forget Daltrey's singing the words "See me, feel me, touch me, heal me". I wish I knew enough to add something to the article.
[edit] Punching
The several paragraphs on Daltrey's tendency for punching people make him seem like some sort of maniac, isn't there a quote or something that can be used to downplay this or something? 75pickup (talk · contribs) 03:28, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Harmonica and Moon Movie
he also plays the harmonica. He has been pursuing the idea of making a movie about Keith moon for quite some time...latest news Mike Meyers said he's play the main part. I'm sure I can think of more to add but maybe I'll do that once I figure out how to do editing hereSparklepunk 19:17, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Tommy 25th anniversary tour?
I'm brand new so please bear with me if I don't do this right. On this page it says that Daltry reunited with the Who for a 25th anniversary Tommy tour but I believe that Tommy was originally released in 1969(and that's the year given on the Tommy page), not 1964, so somebody's math is wrong somewhere. Can someone look into this and correct it? Thanks --Melisandebrat 02:28, 14 May 2007 (UTC)melisandebrat
This reference is to the anniversary date of The Who, rather than to the Tommy album. Watch for the 40th Tommy album anniversary coming up in 2009. They'll certainly plan something.Pkeets 15:25, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
Yep, the 1989 tour was for the 25th Anniversary of The Who and the 20th Anniversary of Tommy. Townshend has stated that a big tour is planned for the 2009 40th Anniversary of Tommy. 74.77.222.188 01:46, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Early Morning Cold Taxi
Is their a reference for the claim that this song was written solely by Langston? 74.77.222.188 01:44, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Personal Life
Shouldn't there be a section about it? -MichiganCharms 20:16, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:DaltreyGivingItAllAWay.jpg
Image:DaltreyGivingItAllAWay.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
