Roger Durling is a fictional President of the United States of America in the Tom Clancy novels. Durling was a Senator and Governor of California before becoming Vice President. He succeeded to the presidency when President J. Robert Fowler resigned. Durling's Vice Presidents were Ed Kealty and then Jack Ryan. Durling was aged in his fifties, with a wife and two children. Durling became President after the resignation of Fowler, following the nuclear attack against the U.S. in The Sum of All Fears.
In the novel Debt of Honor, when his Vice President, Ed Kealty, resigned due to a sex scandal, Durling appointed then-National Security Advisor Jack Ryan to the post, even though he was not a member of his political party. Just after Congress voted to confirm Ryan as the new Vice President, a Japanese airliner crashed into the U.S. Capitol Building in a terrorist attack and killed Durling, his wife and most of the U.S. government. Ryan succeeded him as president.
According to the book, his Secret Service codename was JUMPER.
