Roger Dobkowitz (born on 30 July 1945 in San Francisco, California) is the producer for the CBS game show The Price Is Right. He graduated from San Francisco State University in 1972 after completing a thesis, An Historical Study of Prime-Time Network Audience Participation Shows 1948-1968.
He started as a production assistant with The Price Is Right when the show debuted in 1972 and later became one of its producers in 1984.
Other game shows that he has been involved with are Family Feud, the original Double Dare, Now You See It and the 1970s edition of Match Game.
He was frequently shown on Match Game in the '70s usually bearing signs begging his dad to send money. He was also the butt of many jokes as his job was to write down the answers contestants gave in order to remind host Gene Rayburn what they were and would often misspell the answer or write down the wrong word. Such was an incident in 1974 when the contestant said 'dress' and Dobkowitz wrote 'breasts'. Another famed incident was in 1979 when the contestant answered pyramid and Dobkowitz wrote pyraid. Panelist Charles Nelson Reilly was quoted as saying, "Have bugs in the bathroom? Try Pyraid!"
He has created seventeen of the show's pricing games, including Ten Chances, It's in the Bag, Clearance Sale, Pocket ¢hange, Push Over and Check Game. He was also influential in the show's 1991 automobile restriction that until 2008 permitted automobiles and trucks from only three manufacturers — General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler — to be offered as prizes.
Bob Barker would often ask Dobkowitz when the last time an unusual event in the show's history took place. This became so pervasive that once during a Showcase in which Dobkowitz was featured, he was reading from a fake book entitled: 'Roger, when was the last time that happened?' The Official T.P.I.R Record Book.
Dobkowitz has, in Season 36, become part of showcase themes. In a Halloween-themed showcase, Dobkowitz portrayed an Italian chef attempting to ward off a vampire. In another showcase later in the season, Dobkowitz appeared as himself, having been tied up by pirates.
