As of today (8/17/06) The Playland and Storybook areas of this park have fallen on very hard times. This week, the City bailed out these areas for the third year in a row. This time it was a $75,000 payment to cover insurance costs. The City made it clear that this was the last time they would throw money at the problem.

Storybook is falling apart - in great disrepair, dirty and quite unappealing. Playland had ONE ride running today - the Merry-Go-Round. The other rides were shut down for repairs and - according to the signs - "safety upgrades."This in the middle of the summer, on the last week of vacation for Fresno school kids. Pretty sad.

I'm sure Fresno natives feel some twinge of nostalgia about this park that dates back to their childhoods, but enough is enough. No one seems to care about these relics and there's no apparent reason to keep sending good money after a badly run and poorly serviced eyesore like this.
