[edit] Spanish Translation of the Week

Thanks for your help with the Spanish Translation of the Week, both on the La Seo Cathedral and Campo de Criptana articles. You've done a lot of good work; just be careful not to burn yourself out. Thanks again - Draeco 04:41, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

At Talk:Campo de Criptana: what is the basis for saying the Spanish-language article is featured? Doesn't look to me like it is, and it doesn't cite even a single reference. (Please respond there, not here or on my user talk page. Thanks.) - Jmabel | Talk 02:09, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Enrique Gaspar y Rimbau

Hey Rodney. I kind of extrapolated the 2 sons and a daughter from seeing a mention to his 2nd son (segundo hijo) and the daughter that cared for him when he was dying. Not definitive though. Also, please don't dump untranslated articles into article space, even if they are translation of the week. Put them in a subpage of the project til they're translated. Hasta lluego, Proto||type 19:30, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Spanish Translation of the Week

I'm going to update the topic template to the current translation article. For future reference: The links to the templates can be found here: Wikipedia:Spanish_Translation_of_the_Week#Templates. Modifying Template:SPATRAtopic will change the topic template at the top of the page and any other page using the template. — J3ff 03:12, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:Ahmet-kaya.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Ahmet-kaya.gif. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 20:05, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RE: Charles Barron

I have written most of the article about Charles Barron myself and I was a little unsure of the last addition to the article, which told of Charles Barron's encouragement for murdering police officers. I would like to have some reference for that statement and I'd appreciate some links or information you might have about Charles Barron, particularly in his earlier Black Panther years. Sincerely, -Screwball23 talk 19:48, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I can understand the NPOV issue. However, I am not sure why you keep removing the land reform in zimbabwe link i made. Reading your edit remark, it looks like it should go into a see also or an "inline wikilink". What is an inline wikilink? Also, the point about him stating ignorance on the part of his white colleagues was explicitly stated when he was arguing with former city council speaker Gifford Miller. I'll add more about that when I can. As far as Guiliani's opinion of him, I doubt any politicians articles require that much detail. Few reporters would bother to ask Guiliani about something Barron said unless it was in a direct dispute. I doubt a respectable reporter would approach the mayor and say, "this councilmember hates you, what do you think of him?" I like your links though.

Keep it up! -Screwball23 talk 21:23, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Posito Campo Criptana2.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Posito Campo Criptana2.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. 82.83.101.76 08:10, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Posito Campo Criptana2.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Posito Campo Criptana2.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. 82.83.101.76 08:10, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RE: Bay Ridge, Brooklyn

There is an article that I have NPOV doubts about. You helped me greatly with the Charles Barron article, but this one is a really hot topic involving the post-9/11 terrorist scare in NYC. The Bay Ridge neighborhood has a mosque that has been linked to terrorism through several news sources, but putting that in the article would look un-encyclopedic and was seen as offensive to some wikipedians. Please take a look at the history of the Bay Ridge, Brooklyn article and you'll see what I'm talking about. --Screwball23 talk 00:30, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] LAPA flight 3142 translation

I see you translated most of the cabin conversation section; it's a little tough, so I have three points to discuss with you in order to finish that section off.

  1. «¿Tenía una avioneta atrás?» (heard at very low volume). -> "Was there a plane behind us?"
  2. "Correte Adrián que te piso" -> "Move it, Adrian, or I'll run over you." ?
  3. At 31.41, I feel like the original Sonido mecánico continuo de shaker de comandos (Stick Shaker) means to say "Continuous mechanical sound of the stick shaker." I'm no aviator, but judging by the stick shaker article, that was probably the intention.

I've made the above changes, but wanted to let you know so you'd be sure to take a look at it. Keep up the hard work - Draeco 23:18, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Another NPOV issue

I've come to you to resolve my NPOV issues in the past, and I must compliment you; you've done an excellent job so far and you've dealed with my concerns accurately, respectfully, and directly. That is why I come to you again for another concern (if you don't want me to come and bother you about these issues, don't worry, you can just say no)

  • Shahawar Matin Siraj- related to the Islamic Society of Bay Ridge section of the Bay Ridge article i showed you before
  • Islamic Thinkers Society- this article needs serious research and clean-up before it can be close to neutral. Any suggestions would be helpful--that article is awful.

Thanks again, -Sincerely, --Screwball23 talk 19:24, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Redirects

Hey Amigo, when you turn a page into a redirect, you have to clear out any text that's already in it. If you are merging pages, you should follow the guidelines at WP:MERGE, which basically state that all the information from the article that is becoming a redirect ought to be preserved in the article it is getting merged into. While merges like Zoque/Zoque Indians are fairly commonsense, others may be controversial. For these, it is best to propose the merger first using the appropriate tags ({{mergeto|article name}} and {{mergefrom|other article name}}. Thanks, and good luck with future merges and redirects. --Rockero 17:40, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hiatus

Ahoy friend, I hope this message finds you well. You're one of the most active editors at WP:SPATRA, and you've managed several SPATRA's well in the past, so I think you should know that I'm about to go on a two-week hiatus to Thailand far from computer access and our beloved SPATRA. Take care of the project, good luck translating Spanish Romance literature (I'll try to squeeze in a few more translations before departure), and I'll see you again in mid-July. - Draeco 21:31, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New Collaboration for Wikipedia:WikiProject Newfoundland and Labrador

A new article SS Florizel of Newfoundland and Labrador context has been created and we invite you to contribute to the article to firstly get it up to DYK status and hopefully to feature article status. The article is about a bit of Newfoundland's marine history and the sinking of the SS Florizel and it’s many passengers including a little girl Betty Munn. If you have any knowledge of the subject please pitch in add/edit and if not specific knowledge of the article if you could help by generating articles on any of the red-ink (wikified) topics, would be great. Thanks so much to help on this article. As a suggestion, maybe every Monday we could offer up a new topic to collaborate on and then pool our talents on that one. Oh and BTW did you catch the article that OzLawyer create on the Newfoundland Tricolour that made it to the Did you know? column on 5 July 2006.! HJKeats 23:22, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] ICRC move/creation

Hello Rodney, for the past few months I've been writing a new International Committee of the Red Cross article. I'm finally satisfied enough to propose its move into the main namespace, though it's far from perfect. That article is at User:Draeco/ICRC, and I've proposed a move here. You may not feel well-versed enough in the area, but if so I hope you can take the time to give your opinion, I've come to respect your opinions through the SPATRA. Hope the hiatus went well. - Draeco 18:00, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Ah, yes, the addiction that is Wikipedia, we even monitor it on holiday. Thanks for your corrections, that's much more than I was asking for, but still very appreciated. I'll make a few changes where I can, but a number of the passages can't be changed because they're quotations, paraphrasings, or thinly-veiled legalese. I was actually just asking for a simple support/oppose vote here, but in retrospect my question didn't make that very clear. - Draeco 23:52, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your comment to Talk:King Kaufman

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article King Kaufman, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at Talk:King Kaufman. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. - CobaltBlueTony 15:51, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Uakti

Hello Rodney, thank you for translating this article. Your translation is very precise. I've made some minor adjustements. In the History, I've reordered the phrases so it was givving the impression that Guimarães created the Fundação de Educação Artística, but that was only tha place where the meetings took place. I've made the same alterations in portuguese, cause the text was ambiguous. My english is not good, so I would like you to correct some mistake I have done. In time: Oiapok XUI is a joke that make sense to all brazilians, refering to the music of all regions in Brazil, but you may want to explain its origin: "From Oiapoque to Chui" is a way brazillians use to say "in the entire country, from north to south", cause Oiapoque is the far northest city in Brasil and Chuí is the extreme south. So Oiapok XUI is an alternative spelling (ressembling indian languages) to Oiapoque Chui. Fell free to write this (or not) in the article. Best regards. Cralize 22:08, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] James Louis O'Donel

Sorry if I stepped on a toe changing the "references" thing. I tracked this back from Dictionary of Canadian Biography Initiative and was standardizing that link and went ahead and did the external link which I use there. I will leave it alone. Thank you for your message! This IP is a school computer, and my warning to them was issued a week ago, so in all likelihood those are two different vandals. However, if you see a new vandalism spree coming from this IP, don't hesitate to let me know, or list it on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism for faster response. Thanks! [edit] Beothuk

Hi Rodney! I notice you have a "citation request" on the "Beothuk" page regarding the meeting of Inuit and Beothuk with Sir Hugh Palliser at Chateau Bay in 1765. If you look down the page to "External Links" you will see I have added a link to: "An article in the Labradorian Newspaper, 28 Aug., 2006 discussing the oral treaty made with the Inuit and Beothuk peoples in 1765"

I should also mention that, because the source was only a newspaper article and not an academic paper or the like, I began the entry with the qualifier: "Apparently," to indicate that this may not be an established historical fact. Please contact me on my Talk page and let me know if you think if I should make a mention of the article in the passage itself or if you have any other suggestions.

Cheers, John Hill 23:47, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Wendycarlos.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Wendycarlos.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Chowbok 23:45, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] David Elliott (poet)

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article David Elliott (poet), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of David Elliott (poet).
