Richard Fortey: Life: An Unauthorized Biography., pp.282-:
There was a French collector, M. Thirioux, who acquired and "preserved" the last two specimens of an exotic lizard species from Rodriguez[sic] Island, in the Pacific Ocean, only to die himself of a heart attack later the same day, thus neatly ensuring the simultaneous demise both of a species and his own person.
"M." is probably for "Monsieur". The famous Mauritian naturalist Louis Etienne Thirioux died June 11, 1917. It appears to be this person, and this species.
