Roderick T. Long (b. February 4, 1964) is a professor of philosophy at Auburn University and an anarchist/libertarian political commentator. He received a B.A. in philosophy from Harvard University and his Ph.D. from Cornell University. He has published with noted libertarian authors including fellow Ayn Rand scholar Tibor Machan. His work has been debated by Walter Block,[1] Robert Bidinotto,[2] and others. Notable authors citing or discussing Long's work include Stephan Kinsella,[3] Richard Stallman,[4] Walter Block,[5] and Gene Callahan.[6]
Long currently serves as the editor of the Journal of Libertarian Studies (succeeding Hans-Hermann Hoppe) and is a Senior Scholar at the Austrian School Ludwig von Mises Institute, also located at Auburn. He is also faculty advisor to the Auburn University Libertarians campus group and is a member of the Liberty and Power group blog. He is the founder and president of the Molinari Institute, a think-tank, and the Molinari Society, both of which are named for the 19th century Belgian economist Gustave de Molinari.
Areas of scholarly endeavor by Long include "Greek philosophy; moral psychology; ethics; philosophy of social science; and political philosophy (with an emphasis on libertarian/anarchist theory)."[7]
