Rode Heath is a small village in the civil parish of Odd Rode in Cheshire, England near Alsager.[2]
The Trent and Mersey Canal runs through it. According to the 2001 census, Rode Heath had a population of 2,150.[1] The village is technically the two villages Rode Heath and Thurlwood. Since extensive housing developments in Thurlwood the two are known simply as Rode Heath. Rode Heath has two pubs and a local primary school.[3] There is a sizeable post office selling many goods and a "Bargain Booze". Rode Heath also contains a small Chinese takeaway and the Church of the Good Shepherd; one of the three churches that make up the Parish of Odd Rode. Close by is Rode Hall, which gardens are a tourist attraction.[4] The village has an ideal number of gentle walks along the picturesque canal and through the countryside, making it popular with young couples and dog walkers. The current owner of Rode Hall is Lady Wilbraham who is also president of the local Rode Hall Silver Band.[5]
[edit] History
In the past, Rode Heath and Thurlwood were completely different places. The children from each would fight each other, and the adults would play football against each other. There was at one point a church in Thurlwood, although this is no longer the case. Rode Heath and Thurlwood are now effectively joined, although the major 'link' and where you can see the end of one village lies on the southemost lock.
