Rod Keenan (born in Great Bend, Kansas) is a famously reclusive New York milliner, well known in fashion circles for re-establishing men’s headwear as a fashion commodity in the early 1990’s.
Inducted into the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) in 2006, Rod has spent the past few years expanding his customer base from celebrities and fashion magazines to a broader base of fashion consumers who understand his sculptural sensibility, sometimes sarcastic wit, and excruciating demand for detail.
Drawing on sources as divergent as the Dadists (Elsa Schiaperelli particularly), ancient Egypt, and Kurt Weill, Rod maintains a uniquely New York vernacular while designing in the finest Italian tradition, executed with British millinery precision.
In addition to creating hats for celebrities such as Elvis Costello, the Scissor Sisters, Snoop Dogg, Justin Timerlake, and Brad Pitt, among others, Rod has also designed hats for designers Paul Smith (fashion designer) and Dries van Noten.
