[edit] Starting over

Let's keep it clean now. Article needs improvement. The talk page is now archived, it was messy and at times silly, somebody should investigate and write a paragraph on the cause of Rocky's death, I mean, in full, what happened that night. Note, this article is Class B and requires clean up and additional references Indianawisdom (UTC)

[edit] Punches in a round

Can anybody share some info? An average boxer champion how many times will he hit an opponent, how many of those hits will land on the money? Marciano did it 90 times against Charles in their return bout. Do they mean it was 90 landed or 90-100 total?

[1] Here I found some info on number of punches per round. User_talk:Dale4sail

[edit] The Last Ride Aug 31 1969

'After dinner at STP (motor oil company)|STP]] founder Andy Granatelli's home where Rock reportedly gave Granatelli's son boxing lessons after he was being picked on in school.' This needs correction. Do we know that for sure? Other books say Rocky had a dinner at restaurant. I do know he was making a comomercial for Motor Oil Industry. At that time he was making money by doing commercials. Did he finish it, does footage exist?? Speaking of last ride, the last fight, Rocky had some plans to do it, but he wanted to get paid well, he was tired of giving 50% to his manager. He wanted 25K under the table. It seems to me nobody took him seriously about retirement! Leave me a message:User_talk:Dale4sail

[edit] Breaking the Record

In 1985, Spinks beat David Sears and Jim McDonald, both by knockout, in title defenses, before challenging Larry Holmes for the world's Heavyweight championship in a fight recognized by the IBF. Holmes was trying to tie Rocky Marciano's record of 49-0 as the Heavyweight champion with the most fights undefeated, but it was Spinks who made double history that night, winning a 15 round split decision and becoming the first world Light Heavyweight champion ever to win the world Heavyweight title after being Light Heavyweight champion. With this, Michael and Leon had also become the first pair of brothers ever to be world Heavyweight champions. The fight was, once again, broadcast by HBO. In the return bout, Spinks won again. It is interesting to note that the fight was on 9 21 1985, exactly 30 years to the date of Rocky's 49th bout. No doubt Don King wanted to make more money. But that was very disrespectful to Marcianos and the fans. Why did Holmes fight so bad? Was he over the hill?User_talk:Dale4sail

No Larry Holmes was not over the hill if you ever look up some of the people he fought you will find out that they were bums he handpicked his fighters and fought only bums although he was a pretty good fighter all in all.User_talk:The K.O. King

And who did Rocky beat? bums and old men! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.162.69.207 (talk) 18:54, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

But, unlike Holmes he fought anyone that wanted to fight him. The K.O. King (talk) 14:19, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Death?

He died on the way to give a speech for a friend's son? Was he running for office or going to jail? This is a strange way to die and needs a better explanation. 67.110.221.182

I can not tell you for sure, nobody does, I know his wife was disappointed, he was to come home on August 31st before 9pm. Instead he was invited to make a speech of support to a young man of 21, he was about to enter business world. He was told he'd be back in the morning of his birthday, giving him just enough time to sleep and get ready to celebrate birthday with his son, daughter and wife. But, definitely, nothing to do with jail even though Rocky knew many people in jail, but himself was never involved in mafia operations. Death was unexpected, it usually is.Indianawisdom 19:01, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Relatives

Does anybody know if Marciano had any kids, brothers, or sisters? The K.O. King (talk) 22:19, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

I know he had a girl because she broke his nose and he claimed it was the hardest he's ever been hit. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.29.171.62 (talk) 13:31, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Question

Is it true that Rocky's daughter ended up working in a burger bar because no one knew where his money was ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.162.70.79 (talk) 21:53, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

KO record is exactly 87.755%
It's possible, I know her life was not easy after dad died, mother was in bad health, keep in mind she was only 16 years when she lost her dad and lots of money remains missing to this day, rocky had phobias of banks and financial institutions, i guess this fear goes back to old days and the great depression, so at least 2 million (or 4) dollars is missing and no more than 10% was recovered! It's a sad story, but expected from Rock's lifestyle: live fast, die hard!
On a seperate topic, Rocky's amateur record is 9-4 or 11-4 or 10-4 at least! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.99.2.32 (talk) 00:17, 27 March 2008 (UTC) , modified by 12.26.69.6 (talk), 01:24, 31 March 2008

[edit] Amateur bouts

As Everett Skehan says in his book Rocky Marciano: Biography of a First Son (p. 73), referring to Marciano's amateur career: "He'd had a dozen fights, losing four." If he lost four of his twelve fights, he'd had an amateur record of 8 wins and four losses.MKil (talk) 21:16, 27 March 2008 (UTC)MKil

I agree. The K.O. King (talk) 17:39, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] 16 straight

Should we mention that Marciano at one point in time held the record for most consecutive knockouts at the start of a career for a Heavyweight champion (this record was beaten by Tyson and later on Klitschko). The K.O. King (talk) 14:21, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
