[edit] Early life and career

Marquette was born in Fremont, Michigan and raised in Muskegon, Michigan. He decided he wanted to become an actor after watching the soap opera All My Children with his grandmother during the summer days in Michigan.[2] In 1987, Marquette gave his first performance with a puppet show that was part of his aunt's college class project.[3] [2] He spent a lot of time on the shores of Lake Michigan, but also wrote about moving to California and becoming an actor.[3][4] In High School, he was a high school drum major in the marching band. At eighteen, he won the Shakespeare Scholarship to Grand Valley State University.[5]

After college, he moved to Los Angeles to take on his dream. He signed with Robert Abrams of Equinox Talent and within a few weeks landed his first of four national commercials.[3] He was then introduced to Frederick Levy. As Rocky Marquette quoted, "The best manager in the world!" Marquette signed with agents Mara Santino and Ryan Daly at the KSA talent agency in 2003. Marquette quickly landed his first role in the independent film Iowa[6] Soon after Marquette landed his breakout role in Shallow Ground.[1]

Frederick Levy introduced Marquette to the part of The Boy in Shallow Ground.[2] At the audition he impressed writer director Sheldon Wilson who thought that Marquette "nailed it [the character]"[7] and although many people were auditioned for the part Wilson felt that Marquette "was the only one that kept it small and spoke internally."[7]

The role of The Boy is unique in that the character has nearly no lines and is nude for the duration of the film and is one of a few example of where a lead character is nude for the entirety of a film. For much of the film he is also covered in fake blood, made from dye and syrup, only briefly having it wiped off. Many people have been impressed by the use of emotion in the character's eyes[2] and Marquette has received favorable reviews for the character even by critics who otherwise panned the film.[7]

Since the release of Shallow Ground, traffic at Marquette's personal website has more than tripled.[3]

After Shallow Ground, Marquette took on supporting roles in the independent films Anderson's Cross and Guy In Row Five. He booked leading roles in Tobe Hooper's 2006 film Mortuary and Mark Jones's 2007 film Triloquist in what has been described by independent horror films as a "horror trifecta". He also had a role as a troubled teen in Bondage starring Michael Angarano. Marquette landed a supporting role in the film Take starring Minnie Driver.

Marquette's proudest moment came when he found out he landed a movie that would shoot in South Africa. "I have always wanted to go too South Africa. It has been a dream of mine since I was a little kid. Not only that, it is a Vietnam War film!" Rocky's father, Roberto, fought in the Vietnam War as a United States Marine. "I am so proud to do this movie. It is a way for me to show my dad the respect I have for him."[1]
