The original station was put into service in 1907 as part of Northwestern Elevated Railroad's Ravenswood line[2], the station house and platform canopy were similar to those that still exist at the neighboring Francisco Station. The station was demolished and rebuilt in 2006 as part of the ongoing Brown Line Capacity Expansion Project. The new Rockwell station, which opened on August 16, 2006, can support 8 rail cars, and is ADA compliant[3].
