Rockingham City
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rockingham City is a medium sized shopping centre located 38 kilometres southwest of Perth in Rockingham, Western Australia. The centre features a large Target, Kmart, Coles, Woolworths, as well as over 140 specialty stores. There is also a Hoyts cinema complex nearby. In September 2007 plans were unveiled for a $160 million redevelopment of Rockingham City Shopping Centre, which will see the addition of a Fresh Food Mall, 500 plus seat Food Court, Fashion Mall and an Entertainment and Lifestyle Precinct consisting of Main Street Alfresco Dining and an 8-Screen Ace Cinemas Complex.
[edit] Aherns
There was previously a small 2,224 sq.m Aherns store within the centre where the current Best and Less is. When the other four Perth Aherns stores were converted to David Jones, after David Jones bought out Aherns, the Rockingham store wasn't, as it was considered too expensive to convert and revamp such a small store. The store finally closed in June 2004 to much protest. However, since the store has been closed, locals have been calling for a bigger David Jones store within the centre so that they don't have to travel all the way to Garden City, Booragoon in Perth. No action has been taken yet.
[edit] Transport
