Rockfish

Rockfish may refer to one of the following fishes:

  • Striped bass, a member of the Moronidae family (temperate basses). Used most frequently in the mid-Atlantic United States where the fish spawns (Delaware, Maryland and Virginia)
  • A member of the Sebastidae family of venomous fish of the Scorpaeniformes order
  • The New Zealand rockfish, Acanthoclinus littoreus.
  • Shortraker rockfish (Alaskan rockfish) estimated to live up to 157 years, weighing approximately 60 lbs, 40"-50" in length & of an orange color, these fish live approximately 2000' below the surface of the water. One such fish was caught off the Anchorage, Alaska coast in March of 2007(GMC-KUA)
  • Stonefish, a fish with the appearance of a rock or stone
