Rockbot began in Richmond, Virginia in 2001 when bassist Jonathan Sullivan approached guitarist/skateboarder Clark Fraley about finishing off some songs they had been working on. The sound envisioned would be atari rock: a combination of 80s synth pop, atari-like sound effects, and straight up metal. The only problem was the music was lacking something. They decided the band would be anchored by both male and female vocals. A female singer was needed.
Six hours away in New York City, singer/actor/stunt double Apollo Smile longed to return to music. Even though her film and voice career were taking off, she knew she had to rock. Through a mutual friend, Jonathan and Apollo met and immediately began working together. Quickly Rockbot realized that they were on to something special. After touring the east coast in the spring, Rockbot released their first cd, Joystick. Not soon after its release, Props Magazine selected "Breathe" to be on their "How to-BMX" dvd.
Jonathan Sullivan is also with the groups SäU and Jack's Mannequin.
On 10 July 2003 Rockbot announced on their site that the new singer of the group was Kelli Hoosack. Apollo Smile moved on to do acting and stunt double work. On 4 January 2004, Hoosack left Rockbot, and Laura Thomas joined as lead vocalist and contributing keyboardist.
Rockbot wooed audiences with their trademark atari rock sound & their over the top stage energy. Currently, Jon Sullivan plays bass for California piano rock outfit, Jack's Mannequin, on Maverick Records. Clark Fraley, Steve Burner, and Laura Thomas currently play with a Richmond rock band called The Sort.
