"Rock the Boat" is an R&B song written by Steve "Static" Garrett, Eric Seats and Rapture Stewart for Aaliyah's third studio album, Aaliyah (2001). It was co-produced by Keybeats and released as the album's second single in North America in July 2001 (see 2001 in music) and 3rd internationally during the first quarter of 2002 (see 2002 in music). The Hype Williams-directed music video for the song was shot on the weekend of August 25, 2001, just before she died in a plane crash. The song was nominated for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance in the 44th Annual Grammy Awards.

The music video for the song was directed by Hype Williams. It features Aaliyah dancing on a beach, on a boat, and on water in The Bahamas. Filming started on August 22, 2001 and made its world premiere on BET's Access Granted in October 2001. The dance routine was choreographed by Fatima Robinson. Carmit Bachar of the Pussycat Dolls is featured as one of the dancers. The video was put in the 106 & Park hall of fame, making the countdown over 65 times with follow-up "More Than a Woman" making the number-one spot after it was retired. "Rock the Boat" landed at number 2 on BET's Top 100 videos of 2001.
[edit] Aaliyah's Death
On Saturday, August 25, 2001, at 6:49 pm, just after finishing the "Rock the Boat" music video in the Bahamas, Aaliyah and seven friends boarded a twin engine Cessna 402B (N8097W) piloted by Luis Morales III. It is believed that this aircraft was headed to Opa-locka Airport near Miami, Florida, when the flight crashed shortly after takeoff. The pilot and all eight passengers were killed.

In the Billboard Hot 100, the song entered on the chart dated issue September 8, 2001 at number fifty-seven[1] and peaked at number fourteen on it's twelfth week[2]. The song stayed on the chart for twenty-five weeks[3]. The song ranked eighty-fifth on the 2002 year-end chart of Hot 100[4].
The song reached the top twenty of Netherlands and United Kingdom.
