Rock Company

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rock Company is an independent, non-profit organization that was established in the 1970's in Sri Lanka to promote local rock bands. With time and declining interest, the organization folded in the early 1980s. In 2003, Rock Company was re-formed in order to offer a platform for the large number of rock bands that had formed in recent years, and were pursuing original content.

So far, they have helped a myriad of rock and heavy metal bands to organize concerts and publicity and exposure for their music, leading to many singles and albums being released. A highlight of Rock Company events is the monthly 'Rock Saturday', which is a show for bands belonging to the organisation. The sole aim of Rock Saturday's are to provide exposure for the bands, who are then expected to organize their own concerts and events, and hopefully, record and release original material. Weekly meetings are held at the Rock Company club house in Colombo, although the organization is open to bands island-wide. There is also facility for bands to practice at the club house, paying a nominal fee.

The Rock Company has released two compilations of singles by member bands, and a third is scheduled to be released in 2007.
