I've been watching your work on Three Sisters (Pittsburgh) with some interest. This was a project I started that I keep meaning to come back to and finish off... but never got to it. My vision was that all the material you removed would go into individual bridge articles (there are some stubs already) linked from this one... but it wasn't well executed. The various articles are a bit twisted (see Roberto Clemente Bridge for example) Are you from Pittsburgh? (I am not, just was interested in Self anchored bridges) I think you're doing great. Please let me know if I can be of any help. You can answer here, I watch talk pages. ++Lar: t/c 03:51, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the welcome. About the Three Sisters article, I figured it was better to remove the cut/paste stuff from the main article now, and dig it out of the history later if we decide to use it after all. I agree that the Roberto Clemente Bridge article needs "help". I don't have a strong opinion about merging in the individual articles into the main Three Sisters article. I do live near Pittsburgh. [edit] Removing redundant categories from bridges
Hi, I saw you removing the redundant bridge categories for the Pittsburgh bridges. I had left the old Pennsylvania category on because of the text on Category:Bridges in Pennsylvania stating "Note: for convenience ALL bridges in Pennsylvania (except covered bridges) are included in this category. This includes all the toll bridges that can also be found in the subcategories." Do you think we should change that notice as well? I didn't want to go and revert all of the changes you just implemented! :-) ClarkBHM 03:53, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Clark, I loved your "Bridges in Pittsburgh" category and to promote its use I wanted to bring the Pittsburgh bridge articles into compliance with the Wikipedia policy barring articles from being in both a category and a subcategory without a really good reason. I figured "Pittsburgh bridges", being a geographical subset of "Pennsylvania bridges" which is also a geographical set, should follow the normal subcategory rule. "Toll bridges" is not a geographical subset of "PA bridges" and so I can see how you might let that one slide. Anyway, the notice might ought to read something like: "NOTE: It is acceptable for an article to appear in both the 'Bridges in Pennsylvania' category and the 'Toll bridges in Pennsylvania' subcategory."
-
- That sounds workable. Feel free to make the change unless you prefer that I do it... Thanks for your help on the Pittsburgh bridges! ClarkBHM 04:20, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image:Beaver Bridge 1910.jpg
Great pic! Where'd you get it? You might want to give it some provenance info to establish that it IS PD.... Compare with Image:HAER WaldoHancock 03 320291pv.jpg which I got from HAER. I gave it a fair bit of information (and others added more). Also, if that image is PD, maybe it should live on Commons instead of here, so other projects can use it. Nice work though! ++Lar: t/c 02:25, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
- I got it from here, which is a nice collection of old postcards and photos of Western PA. I included that link on the Beaver Bridge article. The particular image you refer to has the date (June 24, 1910) etched into the photo itself, and the bridge in the picture was torn down sometime in 1910. If my understanding of the copyright rules is correct, this pre-1923 image is public domain. Feel free to add whatever you think is appropriate to the image page. I don't know much about the Commons yet, so go ahead and take the lead there if you want. Cheers! Robshill 03:03, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
