[edit] Bot Page

I made a small modification to your bot page. Since you redirected to a subpage of your own User account, the "User contributions" are not easily accessible for the bot, so I simply added that link on that page. --AllyUnion (talk) 06:17, 2 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Nonsensical Edits

This is the preserved version of multiple discussions about this subject, which were removed from the talk page as spam. I retain this version, as it is the most descriptive, and as the first request was reasonable.

how come all my joke edits and fake articles never get moved to Bad Jokes And Other Deleted Nonsense? if you would only put all of my gibberish on BJAODN, then i would stop my reign of gobbeldygook. (preceding unsigned comment by Dockcharlotte 18:46 2nd September 2005)

[edit] About my RfA

Hi Rob. You have been one of the most vehement opponents to my adminship nomination, but I hope we will be able to work together if ever given the opportunity to do so. I appreciate the fact that you made your concerns public but I still hope to prove your fears wrong. As for my opposing to your nomination, it was, as I stated, mostly because you kind of popped out of nowhere one month ago, but also because you claim to regard the assumption of good faith as a mandatory quality of an admin, yet haven’t exactly convinced me that you used it towards me. For the record, I have absolutely no hard feelings towards you, and I hope you believe me. Best regards, Sam Hocevar 08:24, 4 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] "Thanks" from Dore

Thermal power station is currently 16520 bytes. Assuming Part 2 is about the same size, don't create a separate article. Wiki starts moaning at 30 kbytes but ignore it - this talk page is 53 kbytes. -- RHaworth 10:47:11, 2005-09-04 (UTC)

As per the above suggestion uploaded Part 2 along with first part now. The total is about 31kb only. Thanks for his suggestion. Thinking of adding some more articles like deaerator, all in one to make it near about 30kbs. Thanking you for the edit done for me to guide me. Dore chakravarty 00:16, 5th September 2005 (UTC)

My above article appears unique as I see it. because there is no other article as I have found from my search, by a Technocrat on this overall subject from his/her practical experience. May be difficult to find today from younger generation due to specialistaion in a perticular field only. Can this therefore go for Featured Article Drive. If you feel so how can I proceed? Please advise as I am not able to follow the directions(being new to WIKI)in the referred page.
--Dore chakravarty 21:08, 7 September 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for the directions. The txt has been pasted to the image's description page.

[edit] Reasons for the failed RFA

As your request for adminship was in the bureacrat's discretionary range, I have failed it and removed it. However, I felt I owed you an explination for why I choose to. It's nothing personal, and I have seen nothing but good work from you, however, I agree with Dragon's Flight that only one month of active editing is not suffecient time to become familiar with the community and its practices before being entrusted with admin powers. I hopy you'll reapply in a few months, when you've been here a bit longer. →Raul654 01:33, September 8, 2005 (UTC) Since your request for comments was in the bureacrat's discretionary range, I

[edit] "Thanks" From Matty J

Thanks for the tips.

My only problem with the current set up is that, from my point of view, Vernon Wells the baseball player is far more prominent than Vernon Wells the actor, and yet the actor has the namespace. I've never heard of the actor (although I grant that in many areas of the world where North American baseball isn't prominent, the ballplayer isn't well known either). Keeping the disambiguity page removes the apparent bias of suggesting one "Vernon Wells" is more prominent than the other. -- Matty j 04:08, September 9, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Legal "threats"

The Arbitration case against Ed Poor has been closed without action after Ed resigned his bureaucrat status.

[edit] Post on my Talk Page

I got the following message some time back. Not able to find from whom? Can you please help me to find out when you find time?

Dear Mr.I have gone through the above article and I do appreciate the effort you have put in to write the article.I have a small suggestion. To make it little more elaborate, I would prefer to add an internal link “on barring gear”, with words now added and a separate paper elaborating about “barring gear”, as given here under:Please opine as I have some more suggestions like this. I am also thinking on the lines suggested earlier by you.As you are more experienced in writing for this web site, you would be able to help me on this.

--222.153.85.90 06:29, 14 September 2005 (UTC)

Unfortunately, because you often edit and post on talk pages without signing in, I can't actually find which of your talk pages (you appear to have a dynamic IP address) you are talking about. If we could find that, then we can check the page's history to find out who left the message. Rob Church Talk | Desk 08:33, 15 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Jana Stephan

I can find no evidence that you notified the uploader of the impending deletion of the images you listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion as is required in the steps to list an image. Can you correct this and relist the images or show me the "paper trail" that I may be missing. --Thanks Nv8200p (talk) 18:01, 14 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Personal attack?

That was not a personal attack, it was a paraphrase. The phrase was also not directed to any one person, so I fail to see how that can be personal. --mav 18:01, 15 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image linking

Doggone, I thought there was a way to do that.  :) Thanks much for the huge help. - Lucky 6.9 00:52, 16 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Bmicomp's RfA

Well, my RfA has not quite completed yet, but either way, I'd like to thank you for your vote and your support, regardless of the outcome. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 23:24, 16 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] IRC issues

You seem to be offended that I would call your questions stupid. Please understand that the issue is not the content of your comments or questions, but merely their poor timing and quantity. We had already noticed and confirmed the problem shortly before you entered the channel -- a fact which you could have determined yourself by careful observation rather than chattering. I thought I made the situation pretty clear after the adler crash: I have no reservations about using channel modes to optimise the speed and effectiveness of the sysadmin response to an emergency situation.

In the future, if you want to make yourself useful in such a situation, here's what I'd suggest:

  • When you notice a problem, first go to http://ganglia.wikimedia.org/ to determine if it's just you or if it's the whole site. Pay particular attention to the network statistics.
  • If it's the whole site:
    • Do not report the minutiae of your individual experience
    • Enter #wikimedia-tech, and watch the channel for 30 seconds to get an idea of whether a response has begun
    • If it seems as if the problem has not been noticed, give a concise report of your observations, both from individual experience and the statistics. For example "site down, ganglia shows apache network drop".
    • If you like, you can watch the response, but please keep channel traffic to an absolute minimum. Learn what's going on by reading the channel, then if another user asks a question, you can give them a succinct response, thereby saving the sysadmin team from answering it. Feel free to transmit information to the other user forums.
  • If it's just you, then it's not an emergency situation. Feel free to chatter.

-- Tim Starling 00:28, 17 September 2005 (UTC)

Rob, some advice from a long-term wikimedia-tech channel groupie: when the poo poo hits the fan, just watch quietly and if you want to know what happened, ask WHEN IT'S BEEN FIXED. Then ask concisely and politely and if someone who actually knows what happened is around, they'll tell. Dan100 (Talk) 08:18, 17 September 2005 (UTC)
I already apologised to Tim. Rob Church Talk | Desk 17:14, 17 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Lyrics

I removed the lyrics because Pink Floyd lyrics aren't PD, GFDL, or anything of the sort. They're copyrighted material and do not belong in articles. It's standard procedure to remove lyrics from articles when they are copyrighted. User:Luigi30 (Ταλκ) 02:00, 19 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Accolade (disambiguation)

I found that in Accolade (disambiguation) you've linked to brace, but the brace listed there relating to music I don't think is the one you intended. Can you give me an explaination so I can create a differentiation between the existing one and the new one that needs to be created (I imagine going to have to modify the references to brace (music))? [edit] another artcle ready and help-request

Emergency lighting and communication

This artcle is ready for uploading. This is one of Fossil fuel power plant items. This is also of small size, about 30kb .It has one image file in png format, already buploaded. Secondly as I have converted some files to png format and uploaded them, want to delete the jpg format files from the image list. How this can be done is not clear. Suggestions please.

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Posse of One albums

I'm reverting your closure of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Posse of One albums and relisting it; it wasn't a nomination of Posse of One, which was speedied, but of their albums, whose articles were enumerated in the first line of the nomination. —Cryptic (talk) 22:26, 26 September 2005 (UTC)

Great work tagging speedies Rob, but please not that 'adversing' is not a WP:CSD (as much as it shjould be) --Doc (?) 22:33, 27 September 2005 (UTC)

You're right it bloody well ought to be. Couldn't we put it through under "only consists of attempts to relate to subject" though? Regardless, it's gumph that no-one will crucify us for deleting quietly. Rob Church Talk 22:36, 27 September 2005 (UTC)
