Since 1978 I have done extensive research on my mother's Adams family, and, along with roughly two dozen distant cousins, have identified John Adams of Charles County, Maryland, as the original immigrant from England, and have I have visited Hagley Hall Southwest of Birmingham, England, and examined Littleton family archives to try to verify widespread family history linking our Adams family with the Littleton family in England.
Ancestry lists from widely separated branches of the family, who did not know of each other and could not have compared notes, all refer to the Littleton family connection, and none refer to any connection with a Francis Adams family which also started in Charles County, Maryland, and which some outside researchers try to blend with our family (without checking their conclusions with actual family members).
I have published 18 issues of "Adams Family newsletter" on various branches of this Adams family, and can send copies on request. An essay entitled "Bad Genealogy" is also available and dicusses the erroneous connection with the Francis Adams family, whose history was documented by one of its own members, noted historian James Truslow Adams.
"Adams Family of Charles County, Maryland", lists several thousand family members found up to date of publication, and is available in major genealogical libraries such as the Library of Congress and DAR libraries in Washington, and the LDS library in Salt Lake City.
