My gainful employment casts me as computer software architect. In my free time I'm an amateur pianist and conductor. Please remember the five pillars and, in particular, please be civil.

Apposite quotations

Abel Muzorewa, the Methodist bishop who was briefly president in Zimbabwe (some give Mother Teresa as the original source):

People are unreasonable, illogical and self-centred. Love them anyway.
If you do good they'll accuse you of having a hidden agenda. Do good anyway.
Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable. Be honest and frank anyway.
What you have spent years building may be destroyed overnight. Build anyway.
Give the world your best and you'll get kicked in the teeth. Give the world your best anyway.

Oliver Cromwell's army chaplain:

Let us not assume any power of infallibility towards each other, for another's truth is as dark to me as mine is to him - until the Lord enlighten us both.

I became involved primarily because of the kind welcome I received, and the initial assumption that I knew what I was doing, even when I was a clueless newbie. Various factors have persuaded me to stick with it.

  • The Wikipedia project's implied faith in the positive balance of human nature.
  • Wikipedia's ubiquity, and my dislike of the propagation of nonsense.
  • My sanguine eventualism.
  • My professional interest in content management.
  • The Wikipedians I have greatest respect for gave me space and encouragement when I needed it, for which I thank them.

I try to contribute civilly always: I think this is vital in a collaborative voluntary project such as Wikipedia.

I am an administrator. Leave me a message on my talk page if you need help that requires a mop and bucket. My administrative actions are available for scrutiny (blocksprotectsdeletionsmoves).
