March 27, 2008 I added Barnsdale to the locations list, because it does play a major role in the early legend. It is the setting for A Gest of Robyn Hode (http://www.lib.rochester.edu/camelot/teams/gestint.htm) , the most influential and longest of all ballads, as well as Robin Hood and Guy of Gisborne, Robin Hood and the Bishop of Hereford (Version A, in Child's collection), and others. It's also the location mentioned by the earliest chroniclers Andrew of Wynton and Walter Bower. http://www.lib.rochester.edu/camelot/teams/chronint.htm There are still minor references to Barnsdale in modern Robin Hood productions, such as being the home of Little John in the 1976 film Robin and Marian.
