Talk:Robert Seeley
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This article mentions that Wethersfield was the first settlement in Connecticut. Wasn't Windsor founded first?
Additions made recently by user Polly Cumbo have changed the article from an article about Seeley to an article about the Pequot War and New Haven Colony. Users who want more information on those events should click on the links. The extra information, while valuable, clutters the article and alters it from its pupose: a brief biography on Robert Seeley.

- I'm brand new to wikipedia. Having roamed around for a few hours now, I've learned some valuable things. This edit history of this brief biography is a good case in point. It seems to have started out as something akin to jello-- bland and substanceless. Then it was built up and contextualized with footnotes to boot-- something rare in the majority of wikipedia articles I read. Then, ostensibly in the interests of removing clutter, the original contributor erased all of the significant history that contextualized the life of someone like Robert Seely. To what purpose? Does it have something to do with having an a genocidal nonentity like Seely as an ancestor? Look dude, while we can't pick our ancestors, we can be honest about them. Unfortunately, as the article now stands, there's no telling fact from sentiment about Robert Seely, given the most recent changes to his bio. Instead of contextualizing Seeley as a colonist with a vested interest in the outcome of the Pequot War, L'Ascolano gives us, "[Seely] carried a permanent scar from the wound." Wow! I've learned a lot. L'Ascolano's erasures result in a decontextualized biography that lacks history but is lamely peppered with sentimental drivle culled from a vanity press publication! Are we really supposed to buy that Montell Seely and Kathryn Seely's so called "history" is legitimate? Now I know why I have to work so hard teaching incoming first year undergrads proper research methods since they're being taught by secondary school teachers like L'Ascolano. Now I know why universities do not allow students to cite wikipedia articles. Increase Mather 00:27, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
