Robin Gibson

Robin Gibson was firstly, Assistant Keeper, City Art Gallery, Manchester and for many years Twentieth Century Curator and then Chief Curator at the National Portrait Gallery, London.

Gibson has curated major exhibitions and written books and catalogues. His publications include books on The Clarendon Collection, 'Flower Painting', 'British Portrait Artists' (with Keith Roberts), the photographer Madame Yevonde, the Sitwells as well as 'The Face in the Corner' and for the Charleston Trust, 'Intimacy and Mortality: Finer's People' on Stephen Finer. He has also published on Glyn Philpot, John Bratby, William Roberts, Glenys Barton and Eduardo Paolozzi.

The Portrait Now and Painting the Century 101 Portrait Masterpieces 1900-2000, which has an introduction by Norbert Lynton, were published by the National Portrait Gallery to accompany exhibitions of the same names.

Gibson has contributed to the Dictionary of National Biography and published articles and reviews for Burlington Magazine, Museums Journal, The Independent, Folio and Modern Painters.

Gibson was appointed OBE.
