Robertson Stephens was a San Francisco-based investment bank that ceased operations in July, 2002 [1][2]. Robertson Stephens was founded as Robertson, Colman, Stephens & Woodman [1] in 1978 and was an independent partnership until the late 1990s, when it went through a series of parent companies, eventually ending up with FleetBoston Financial Corp. Robertson had approximately 1,000 employees at the time it was shuttered by FleetBoston. Robertson Stephens underwrote 74 IPOs with a total value of $5.5 billion in 1999 and 2000.[1]
