Robert Stanard (August 17, 1781 to May 14, 1846) was born in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. In 1798, he attended the College of William and Mary, studied law, and began private practice. He was a member of the Virginia State Convention of 1829-30, which revised the Constitution of Virginia. In 1839, he was elected to the Court of Appeals. He remained on that court until his death.
